Should the 2nd amendment give citizens the right to own assault weaponry?

I think citizens should have the right to own assault weaponry.  Of course their’s a difference between owning and using, and there should be background checks and tests before being allowed to own and operate such equipment, but there is no reasonable reason for a law-abiding citizen not to own something like this.  It could be argued somebody could be dangerous with it, but hopefully they wouldn’t pass the test, and it’s not the assault weapon that makes the person dangerous, it’s the actual person.  Sure, the weapon equips the person to do something dangerous,  just because something could potentially be misused doesn’t mean it should be banned.  Basically, somebody who would be a danger to society wouldn’t become dangerous because of assault weapons, they could always find some other way to be just as dangerous.  Also, such products could be taxed, so the national debt could be lowered, and any illegal transactions would not occur, because of lower prices, higher quality, and being able to deal with less dangerous people.
